Independent author selling her books

Thursday, October 26th, 2006

Have just found out about Jodi ‘author and reluctant marketeer’, who is travelling round the US in a van selling her novel to independent stores. You have to admire that spirit - it is great to see a novelist fighting against the system. Would it work in the UK? Can anyone read here or does everyone just watch reality TV? No! There are readers, but enough? You can drive the length of the country in a day. East to west and back again in less than 24hrs.

Anyway, I will keep you informed of Jodi’s progress selling her book and we will see what tips she has for first time novelists.

Good Luck!

Learn foreign languages thru blogs!

Wednesday, October 25th, 2006

One thing I have realised as I have read blogs from across the world is the simple but effective way that you can use them to learn foreign languages. This is especially true of photoblogs. When a photo is posted and blogged about you have a head start about what is being talked about and can figure it out. I am currently improving my French thanks to this blogger!

Ok, you need a basic knowledge of the language for this to work, but to improve it’s proving great!

Screech Owl! Blogging tips

Wednesday, October 25th, 2006

Look at this photo - how lucky to get a Screech owl take up residence in your bird house! Even if it wasn’t for long. Amazing they got a photo, well done. Great subject for a blog by the way over there. If you’re thinking of blogging it’s great to show the world an interest like that.

New T shirt shop: Where are the cool people?!

Wednesday, October 25th, 2006

Where is the best location in the US and the UK to open a new T shirt store? We’re trying to plan the opening and are stuck on the first problem…location, location, location. Ofcourse it would be great to be on new Bond Street or 5th Av, but the rents are impossible and anyway would we get the customers we want? Where do the edgy, cool people hang out in the UK and the USA?

Honour your father and mother, even if he’s Hitler?

Wednesday, October 25th, 2006

This is a tricky one isn’t it? It all seems to come down to the definition of honour. If you allow no exceptions then how can someone with evil parents honour them? You can honour them through forgiveness I have heard, but that seems a bit of a cop out. Or maybe it isn’t. And what exactly does Honour mean anyway? Esteem? respect? How can you if your parents…say you were Master Hitler and you just discovered who your Dad was. How could you honor him?

Yet if there is one exception then the rule doesn’t hold at all, so there must be a way for our hypothetical Master Hitler to honor his father? But what is it?

Help and advice greatly appreciated.
