Ashes woe increased by rampant Aussies

Friday, November 24th, 2006

This isn’t how it was supposed to be.  It’s as though we have returned to the dark ages of English cricket when a supporter dared not turn on the news for fear of finding out how England had managed to discover a new way of collapsing.

Day two of the Ashes series - Ponting makes it to 196 - at least he doesn’t have the psychological advantage of a double century. But that is a small consolation. Harmison starts with more wides - Flintoff is coming back from injury and is our best bowler, that can’t be right. Strauss is out plulling the ball, hardly an opportune choice of stroke given the circumstances.  Pieterson pulled the ball aswell, but as he suceeded he is not being villified, but KP, what are you thinking aswell?  We need you to make a big score.

So the test and the series is already in the balance. We are trying to save the whole shebang already.

I though this was a thing of the past, I thought we were able to give the Aussies a run for the money, if not quite six of the best, trousers down.

But the boys will come good.  Ofcourse they will.  Just first (and second) night nerves.

We’ll see.

Oh No! The Ashes is lost already!

Thursday, November 23rd, 2006

From Harmison’s shocking first ball that went directly to Flintoff at second slip to Ponting raising his bat to acknowledge the crowds applause for his century the first day of the first test of this Ashes campaign was a disaster for England.

346-3 at the close of play is a terrible scoreline no matter how good the wicket for batting. (more…)
