Does this Christmas song date from the persecution of the Catholics in England? Is it symbolism?
This is the possibility – that
The partridge in a pear tree refers to God
The two turtle doves are the Old and New Testaments.
The three French hens are the three Persons of the holy Trinity (or the gifts of the Wise Men: gold, frankincense, and myrrh)
The four calling birds are the gospel writers Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.
The five gold rings are the first five books of the Bible, the law (the Pentateuch).
Six geese a-laying are the six days of the Creation.
Seven swans a-swimming are the seven sacraments or the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit.
Eight maids a-milking are the eight Beatitudes.
Nine ladies dancing are the nine fruits of the Holy Spirit.
Ten lords a-leaping are the Ten Commandments.
Eleven pipers piping are the eleven faithful Apostles.
Twelve drummers drumming are the twelve doctrines in the Apostles’ Creed.
What do you think? Is this true, or have these meanings just been added to a children’s ryhme?
And is that how you spell ryhme?!

What are you thinking about? Leave a comment. I’ll start off -
Are we really going to lose the Ashes? And am I too tired to stay up all night listening?

Tonight is without a doubt the most important night of the series. England can get back in it, or lose it completely in a few hours.
If you are thinking of staying up to listen/watch a night of cricket, make it tonight!

When we two parted
When we two parted
In silence and tears,
Half broken-hearted
To sever for years,
Pale grew thy cheek and cold,
Colder thy kiss;
Truly that hour foretold
Sorrow to this.
The dew of the morning
Sunk chill on my brow-
It felt like the warning
Of what I feel now.
Thy vows are all broken,
And light is thy fame;
I hear thy name spoken,
And share in its shame.
They name thee before me,
A knell to mine ear;
A shrudder comes o’er me-
Why wert thou so dear?
They know not I knew thee,
Who knew thee so well–
Long, long I shall rue thee,
Too deeply to tell.
In secret we met–
In silence I grieve,
That thy heart could forget,
Thy spirit deceive
If I should meet thee
After long years,
How should I greet thee?-
With silence and tears.
The best Byron I’ve posted so far. Perfect!
