Second life fashion design - slow and uninituitive

Friday, December 8th, 2006

Tried to get involved in Second Life fashion design, but I haven’t used any application so slow and unintuitive for years.  Nothing makes sense, everything reponds seven years after you click.  You can bulk upload, but not upload just one file. The graphics are needlessly large, given the speed this makes the world run at.

I am disappointed, I was all for setting up shop in Second Life and having virtual fun, but that experience was rubbisho.

Wednesday, November 22nd, 2006

RSS is the best way to keep in touch with the changing content of blogs. It is very simple to use, but does involve setting up in a way that you might not be used to.

When you have set up RSS, you will get updates from us and any other blogs you subscribe to automatically without visiting the site!

rss feed help

Click on the rss feed above and you will be taken to our rss feed page.

Click on your reader - if you don’t have one you should now set up an account - and then click subscribe.

Easy as!

How to write a blog post!

Wednesday, November 22nd, 2006

You thought you knew how to write a blog post? There’s always more you can learn, and even the gret Seth Godin is publishing articles on how to do it, so I thought I’d put in my two cents.

1.  Choose a topic that is current and exciting the blogosphere

2. Think! Discover if you have any interesting views.

3. If not, stop right there!

4. Check again that what you are planning to write is interesting.  Someone is going to spend part of their life reading it, so try and make it worth their while!

5. Write it.

6. Reread it. if is boring then delete it.

7. If and only if you get this far…press publish

Get yourself an email newsletter

Tuesday, November 21st, 2006

Sign up for the conceptTshirts newsletter here > arty news <

It is vital if you want to suceed in your online business that you get yourself a newsletter. This is a list of people who are interested enough in your site that they want to receive information by email.

When I set up a new site the Newsletter is the first thing that I put up, so that interested people can sign up.

Make sure that you have the option to sign up for a newsletter on your site. You can then send out monthly information and reports that will interest your readers.

Remember: The list must be double opt in - this means that when someone signs up you then send them an email asking them to click through to finalise their subscription. This stops spam signups and prevents someoone signing up someone elses email.

Sure people will say that RSS will replace email, but it won’t happen for a long time. People are happier with emails than with RSS - and anyway, why not have RSS as well?!

Dot com v Dot co dot uk- the definitive guide

Monday, November 20th, 2006

So what do you do? You are setting up a new online business in the United Kingdom - do you buy a dot com or a dot co dot uk?

Even if you follow traditional advice - buy both - which one do you develop?

Although the web is international, the way that it had been divided down into country level domains means that it has de facto become possible to look at the ending of domains and see what part of the world they cover.  To this extent it means that if your target market is the UK then it will help you to have a dotcodotuk.

Why?

Search engines will immediately be able to tell that you are targetting the UK. Web users will see the ending and know that if they want delivery in the Uk it is a site for them.

Advantages of dotcom

Dotcom conveys an illusion of international presence, but search engines will still attempt to discover which country the site is aimed at.  Aesthetically dotcom is shorter and easier to use in advertising and marketing.
